G.N.I.C. PORT FACILITY (continued)

INSTALLED - CAPACITY

For those interested in utilizing our facilities, the main features of GNICI's Port are:

The Berthing and Offloading Quays: The main berth extends over a length of 233m. The quay is of timber construction and covers an area of approximately 13000sq.m and is 13.6m at its widest point; the draught at high and low water is 7.5m and 6.0m respectively.

The type of debris along the berth is silt, which extends to a depth of approximately 2m thereby minimizing any potential dangers to the hull structure when not afloat.

·        The Foundry Wharf: Situated at the southern limits of GNIC's Sussex Street Georgetown Complex is Foundry's Dockside.  It covers an area of 500 sq.m of which the construction is also of timber.  Unlike the wharf, previously mentioned, this dockside is not used to offload any cargo.  Instead, it is used mainly as a berthing facility and/or trans-shipment station for barges and tugs.

·         Special Barge Bay: The Barge Bay is made available to customers upon request.  It borders the northern boundary of the complex along the Princess Street, Georgetown outfall and the Demerara River.  That is 77.4m x 21.3m which can accommodate barges of approximately 1500 tons or two at 600 tons wit a maximum draft of 2.5m. The offloading aprons are hard standing and comprise three separate access ways to the Barge Bay, which is used for offloading aggregate/sand.

·        The Warehouses:  There are three covered warehousing facilities shielding an area of 11,457 sq. m. each and having the respective dimensions:

i)   408 sq.m.

ii)  406 sq.m.

iii) 420 sq.m.

The open storage areas around the warehouses stretch some 1,4000 sq. m.   It is estimated that the total quantity of fully laden containers, which can be accommodated using three-tier stacking, is approximately 1350 TEU's.

The Road Network: There is an adequate internal road network which links the warehousing and berth services, to the main carriageway within the city limits.
